REASONS FOR USING A, B, C & D EXTINGUISHERS
Portable fire extinguishers are classified to indicate ability to handle specific classes and size of fires. labels on extinguishers indicate the class and relative size of the fire that they are expected to address.
Class A Used on fires involving ordinary combustibles, such as wood, cloth, and paper.
Class B Used on fire involving liquids, greases, and gasses.
Class C Used on fires involving energized electrical equipment or live wires.
Class D Used on fires involving metals such as magnesium, titanium, zirconium, sodium, and potassium.
Class K Used on combustible cooking media such as oils and grease commonly found in residential and commercial kitchens.
FIRE EXTINGUISHER BRACKETS (USED FOR ANY FIRE EXTINGUISHER) All brackets are steel, with powder coated paint application, sized to fit each extinguisher class listed on this page. HALOTRON EXTINGUISHERS (USED IN AIRPORTS ONLY)This model contains the extinguishing agent Halotron® 1, which is EPA approved, government-accepted and specified. This agent discharges as a liquid then quickly evaporates, leaving no residue to clean up afterwards. U.S. FAA approved for use in airports. NFPA-10 rating. Electrically non-conductive. CLASS K WET CHEMICAL EXTINGUISHERS (CLASS K)These units are ideal for commercial restaurant applications as a portable supplement to pre-engineered suppression systems. A low “PH” potassium acetate solution is discharged as a fine mist while preventing splashing and creating an effective foam type blanket necessary for suppressing liquid cooking fires. CARBON DIOXIDE EXTINGUISHERS (CLASS B & C) Extinguisher contains liquid carbon dioxide under pressure. The discharge which changes into a gas appears as a cloud of white snow and is directed t the fire through a funnel shape.WATER MIST EXTINGUISHERS (CLASS A & C)A non-magnetic with a misting nozzle cylinder provides safety in electrical environments.REGULAR DRY CHEMICAL EXTINGUISHERS (CLASS B & C) Contains a siliconized sodium bicarbonate base material for traditional dry chemical fires. Cleanup after use is generally easy due to the fact that the chemical does not bake to the hot metal surface. This is a non-toxic extinguisher. MULTI-PURPOSE EXTINGUISHERS (CLASS A, B & C) Contains specially fluidized and siliconized mono-ammonium phosphate powder which smothers and breaks the chain reaction on Class B fires, fuses and insulates Class A fires, and is a non-conductor of electricity. This is a non-toxic extinguisher.
